Mumbai, Suspended IPL Chairman Lalit Modi seems to have shifted his focus from the BCCI President Shashank Manohar to the interim Chairman of Indian Premier League, Chirayu Amin. This time, Modi has demanded the reconstitution of the disciplinary committee which will probe his alleged irregularities in the running of IPL season three Twenty20 league matches. In a legal notice sent to BCCI, Modi took exception to Amins inclusion in the disciplinary panel and sought setting up of a panel comprising of retired Supreme Court judges who will look into his case from a fresh angle. His counsel Mehmood Abdi demanded removal of Amin from a three-member disciplinary committee which also comprises of Arun Jaitley and Jyotiraditya Scindia.
In the legal notice sent to the BCCI, Modi has stated that Chirayu cannot be a part of the disciplinary panel as he was one of the investors in the consortium which failed in its bid for buying either Pune or Kochi franchises. Talking about Amins involvement in the bidding process of buying new franchises including Pune and Kochi, Modi said, Amins belated admission after two months of him being appointed as interim chairman of IPLs governing council that he agreed to invest 10% in the Pune franchise shows that it was clearly intended that he would be part of the ultimate franchise and its corporate structure, right from the beginning. The suggestion that a person would form part of a consortium and submit a bid only to drop out upon the bid succeeding, strains credibility.
Lalit Modis legal counsel Mehmood Abdi was quoted as saying, Amin was a bidder for the Pune franchise and now he is supposed to inquire whether the bids were rigged or not. According to Abdi, Amin expressed his eagerness to invest ten per cent in a failed bid fro Pune franchise when initially bids were invited. The sources reveal that on July 3, the BCCIs Special General Body Meeting unanimously decided that now Jyotiraditya Scindia will replace BCCI President Shashank Manohar in the disciplinary panel. While defending Chirayu Amin, Shashank Manohar said that Amin had submitted a letter to him with a copy sent to Srinivasan and the notice claimed, disclosing his interest and stating that approval of the BCCI would be obtained, should the bid be successful and should he invest in the company to be formed by the consortium members (of which he formed part). Calling this statement fake, Modi said, This explanation was false. This explanation was also not only fanciful but also an afterthought. It is interesting to note that such letter has never seen the light of day till date. This is simply because none existed. Should it now belatedly come forth, our client will have good reason to believe that it has been falsified to support the false case put forth.
