Hyderabad,The Green Ganesha campaign organized by Hyderabads No.1 FM station, 92.7 BIG FM & Ramky Enviro by installing RAMKY BIG GREEN GANESHA made of newspapers, at Prasadz IMAX during Ganesh Chathurthi was an overwhelming success. 92.7 BIG FM organised Ganesh chaturthi festivities the green way for the 3rd year in a row and the message has impacted the socity in a big way with several devotees opting for environmental friendly Ganesh idols in the last three years.

The campaign this year began with the newspaper collection drive being flagged off by renowned tollywood actor Jagpathi Babu, actresses Kalyani, & Ramky Enviros MD & CEO Mr. Raman Nanda by donating the first set of newspapers on September 3, 2010. Subsequently Bollywood stars Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Sonu Sood & the Dabang cast, donated newspapers for the Ramky BIG Green Ganesha on September 7th, 2010, giving further Impetus to the newspaper collection drive. The newspapers were collected by BIG FM RJs on a daily basis by visiting different areas of the city. The response to the newspaper collection drive was overwhelming, with several citizens including Citys first citizen, Mayor Karthika Reddy coming forward and donating newspapers enthusiastically. Acclaimed artist, winner of many awards and JNTU & Shantiniketan (WB) scholar, Mr. S Kantha Reddy designed the BIG GREEN GANESHA. Prasadz IMAX, citys well-known multiplex was the venue for the GANESHA during Ganesh Chathurthi.

Nikesha Patel of Puli movie fame set the tone for the festivities by performing the first Aarti & offering Puja to Lord Ganesha, on September 11th, 2010 - Ganesh Chaturthi day. Several prominent citizens, celebrities, filmstars and common citizens including those from other towns & places in the state, in large numbers visited and offered prayers to Green Ganesha during the nine days before it was immersed on September 19th, 2010. In terms of popularity, Ramky Big Green Ganesha seemed next only to the tallest Ganesha at Khairatabad in the city.

During the nine days, the on air programs offered innovative contests with BIG FM RJs visiting the Eco friendly pandals of Hyderabad & awarding the RAMKY Best Eco Friendly Pandal Award. The on-air programming had innovative content in terms of interviews, listener and celebrity interactions, live aratis from key city pandals etc. The devotional band saw Ganesha aratis play Ganesh bhajans. It also had listeners wishes being fulfilled, as lucky listeners were picked & their wishes granted.

Commenting on the excellent response received for the paper collection drive and by way of number of visitors to Green Ganesha, Mr. Ramesh Bhaskar, Head-Content & Communication- South, 92.7 BIG Fm said, This is the 2nd year that 92.7 BIG FM has supported the cause of an eco friendly Ganesha made of paper. The response to this initiative has been phenomenal & multiplied over the years. Apart from making people part of the making of Ganesha through their donation, this year we distributed eco-Ganeshas as well to people to reinforce the message with greater vigour.
