Mumbai,This special series presents N. Rajam, who was initiated by her violinist father, A. Narayana Iyer and was groomed by the late Omkarnath Thakur, doyen of the Gwalior gharana. In her 60-year reign as a solo violinist, Rajam has been known for her lyrical style imbued with gayaki ang on the violin. She has been influenced by the artistry of thumri maestro, Mahadev Mishra and exponent of the Carnatic tradition, Musiri Subramaniam Iyer.
Recipient of the Padmabhushan and Sangeet Natak Akademi awards, Rajam is also an academician and has innumerable awards to her credit. She has been serving the cause of music education at the Banaras Hindu University for four decades.
N. Rajam will be accompanied on the violin by her granddaughter, Nandini Shankar.
