Alere is derived from Latin and means to nurture, to care for or to support. The new name, which will be adopted globally by many of the diagnostic business units of parent company Inverness Medical Innovations, communicates the companys objectives to provide physicians and patients with easy-to-use rapid diagnostic tests, a comprehensive portfolio of clinical and laboratory diagnostics as well as health monitoring and health management services.

Globally Alere provides medical diagnostics in the fields of cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, womens health and prenatal care, testing for drugs of abuse and oncology. Alere supports doctors and patients by developing simple diagnostic equipment to ensure better quality in inpatient and outpatient care.
