Acer Computers has this year taken their first steps into the world of campus event promotion and they have been received very well by gaming enthusiasts across three out of five campuses where the scheduled events have taken place. The college festivals include: Sattva, NMIMS, Mumbai Ragam, NIT, Calicut Utkansh, NIT, Jalandhar The company is located as a technology partner providing 22 “gaming” systems to the students during the fest, specifically to the contest- Intel ® Core™ 2 Quad Campus Gaming Star. This event is envisaged by the company as an annual property that could tie –in with other top colleges in the country to present a platform where the youth in these colleges interact with the technology. At all the three fests, Acer conducted workshops on gaming with the customized Intel powered Acer desktop in addition to the Intel ® Core™ 2 Quad Campus Gaming Star that featured hard-core gaming titles. The promotions for the events included posters put up on the college campus and at gaming cafes, a banners on www.sattvanmims.com, www.ragam.org.in, www.utkansh.com, www.zapak.com and giving out registration forms on www.indiangamersleague.com. At Sattva, the tournament which was spread over two days included the games Counter strike 1.6, NFS Most Wanted and FIFA ’08 all of which accounted for a total of 780 participating students and walk-ins that could be anywhere between 1700-2000 strong. At Utkansh, the two day tournament featured -Counter Strike 1.6, DOTA, Cricket ‘07, NFS Most Wanted, and FIFA’08 .The total participants numbered 1060 students while the number of walk-ins hovered between 2500 and 3000. Value addition for Acer included - Laptops apart from the gaming computers being displayed at the gaming arena, - Flyer distribution in the college, - Meetings scheduled between the local Acer dealer with the Director and other important members of the College Board, helping the dealer get a direct entry into the college. The director and other staff members also paid a visit to the arena, and got to experience both the laptops and the CGS arena firsthand. At Ragam, the tournament included the games - Counter Strike 1.6, DOTA, NFS Most Wanted and FIFA ’08.There were 550 participants and around 1000-1300 walkins. There was also a kiosk for the Acer products to be displayed on both the days. Both the tournaments and the gaming workshops were well received and the new Acer Aspire machines were a major crowd puller at the events. The branding and ambience was also appreciated. There are two more fests on the radar that are coming up including Mach ’09 at Amity University in Noida and Enigma at Kautilya Institute of engineering and Technology at Jaipur. Both these events are being publicized like the previous three and Acer is hoping to gain a lot through direct customer interactions.
