Delivery of quality healthcare services to every nook and corner of the country is a big challenge for Government agencies  said Mr Dinesh Trivedi  Minister of State for Heath   Family Welfare  Government of India  He urged the Indian diaspora to partner with the Government to meet this mammoth task  At present  the healthcare industry is looked upon more as sickness industry rather than as a healthcare industry  he felt 
Terming the doctors of Indian origin as critical mass  which constitutes about 25  of the global doctor s pool  Mr Trivedi requested them to suggest ideas for the betterment of healthcare services and its delivery even in villages  He felt the need for a working PPP model at the village and small town levels  wherein hospitals and PHCs can be adopted by the diaspora 
Mr Trivedi added that water is the major cause for the spread of diseases and urged for greater public funding for drinking water and sanitation programmes  He suggested formation of dedicated cadre of bureaucrats for Ministry of Health   Family Welfare on the line of Ministry of Railways
Dr A Didar Singh  Secretary  Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs  said that Overseas Indians worldwide generate an economic output of about  400 billion which is equivalent to about 30  of Indian GDP  He said that there are various medium by which Indian diaspora can connect with India like Overseas India Faclitation Centre  Global Indian Network of Knowledge  India Development Foundation of Overseas Indians etc  He urged the diaspora to partner with the Government agencies in healthcare sector 
Mr Keshav Desiraju  Additional Secretary  Ministry of Health   Family Welfare  said that large proportion of Indian population depends on the 3 tiers of the public health system  which is not properly functioning particularly in the primary and secondary levels  Expressing concern on the lack of skilled professionals  he urged the Indian diaspora to partner with the Government in bettering the delivery of public health care to the needy people at the village level
Mr Rajat Gupta  Member  Prime Ministers Global Advisory Council said that PPP model can help India in successful delivery of the healthcare  He referred to the successful PPP initiatives like Global Funds for AIDS  Malaria and TB  and Emergency Management Research Institute  EMRI
Dr Naresh Trehan  Chairman  CII National Health Council said India needs to update its curriculum to be at par with the international standards  India provides cost effective healthcare services to the medical tourists  He urged the Indian diaspora to invest in India as it provides a huge potential particularly in smaller cities  towns and villages
