To mark the World Diabetes Day  Apollo Centre for Obesity  Diabetes   Endocrinology  ACODE  along with Delhi Diabetes Forum  DDF  organized a fun filled picnic to create awareness in Type 1 children and young diabetics along with their parents
The picnic was a part of World Diabetes Day celebrations   included activities like fashion show for children  quiz on diabetes for parents  poster making competition and other games spreading awareness on management of diabetes in children  Doctors   educators from ACODE were present at the celebration who answered all queries of children   parents
Speaking on the initiative  Dr S  K  Wangnoo  Senior Consultant endocrinologist  Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals said   Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease and is associated with deficiency of insulin  This causes sugar to build up too high in your blood  It is much less common than type 2 diabetes and typically affects younger individuals  Children in Type 1 diabetes need insulin for survival since their pancreas is not producing insulin hormone at all  The awareness among the parents of children with diabetes is essential for better management of the disease  Recent advancements in the diabetes technology like Insulin pump  easy to use glucometers   insulin pens are readily available for use these days which make life with diabetes much simpler
He further adds  Diabetes prevention is proven  possible  and powerful and it’s never too late to start  The key is  small steps that lead to big rewards  However tweaking the lifestyle could be a big step toward diabetes prevention
