Global Hospitals Health City Performs A High Risk And Complex Surgery That Lets 28 Year Old Breath Properly
Posted: February 7, 2012    Send email
A 28 year old patient named Balaji from Nellore presented  at Global Hospitals   Health City  with the symptoms of Stridor  discomfort and noise in breathing   The patient had a history of Organo phosphorous poisoning for which a tracheostomy has been performed and subsequently removed at Nellore  he developed these symptoms 15 days after the discharge from there
At Global Hospitals   Health City  a Fibre optic Laryngital Examination and CT scan of the neck and chest of this patient  showed a very unusual lesion  a  stenosis   narrowing  fairly long segment of 1 7 cms in the trachea  wind pipe   The stenosis  narrowing of the wind pipe   threw many challenges to the doctors  and proved to be extremely difficult in providing a surgical treatment
The narrowing was very near to the Carina  bifurcation of the wind pipe near the lungs  Very close to the Aorta Longest blood vessel in the body Very close to the veins which carry blood from head and limbs Difficulty in anesthesia  as the conventional method was not possible Patient also had the risk of losing his voice
The medical team anticipated all sorts of complications during the surgery  due to the anatomy of the stenosis and also the proposed surgical option  because a wrong small nick to the blood vessels could result in the patient losing a few litres of blood in a matter of seconds  But the experienced medical team took the patient and his family into confidence and decided to go ahead with the surgery
The team of Dr  Krishna Kumar  ENT Surgeon  Dr  Madhu Sankar  Cardiac Surgeon  Dr  Govini Balasubramani  Cardiothoracic surgeon and Dr Narayanamurthy  Cosmetic Surgeon embarked on this high risk surgery with the help of Dr  Kirthivasan  Cardiac Anesthesiologist  In which the narrowed down part was completely removed and the rest of it was sutured together  The surgery was uneventful and took five and a half hours to complete
