Chennai, Tamil Nadu, The Indian Navy in association with Akshaya Homes conducted Chennai first ever Akshaya Navy Queen contest in the city. The weeklong contest concluded at the star studded Navy Ball event at INS Adyar where the final 10 contestants competed for the prestigious crown. The judges for the event were Designer Yasmin and Mr. T.Chitty Babu, Chairman and Managing Director, Akshaya Homes.
The event started with the Navy officer rolling the ball and announcing the start of the Navy Ball 2009. The event was hosted by the vivacious Cary and Rochelle who kept the audiences swing with their wit. There was also a performance by Ambili and her electrifying dance troupe during this event. DJ Walley played the perfect DJ for the evening.
- Ms. Namratha, a sociology student of M.O.P Vaishnav College was crowned the Akshaya Navy Queen 2009
- Ms. Sunaina and Ms. Kim were the 1st and 2nd runner ups respectively
The contest was open to all the beautiful young girls to display their charm and elegant personalities to win this most prestigious and coveted trophy. The contest started with the preliminary round on 19th December in Chennai Citi Centre where the final 10 contestants were selected from more than 300 entries. The contestants were then groomed by top notch industry experts for one week.
The Navy Ball and Akshaya Navy Queen contest are very prestigious events organised by the Indian Navy that is conducted in Chennai for the first time. The Navy Ball is one among other initiatives of the Indian Navy to bond with the civilian community and be seen as an approachable and helping entity.
Speaking on this occasion Commander Mohanraj said, "The Navy Ball and Navy Queen contest are very prestigious events organised by the Indian Navy and we are very proud to bring this event to Chennai for the first time. As custodians of coastal security in the country the Navy Ball is one among other initiatives to bond with the civilian community and be seen as an approachable and helping entity. We have received great response for this event this year and we hope to see more of this event in the coming years as well."
