Overview : The ESENZE energy saving lighting module is a standalone solution for individual HID ( High Intensity Discharge ) lamp fixtures that is capable of providing bi-level dimming for sodium vapor, mercury vapor or metal halide. This dimming module provides the user with the option of variable dimming levels and variable time schedules to suit the actual site conditions. There is a facility to program these variable settings using a PC based software wherein the USB port can communicate wirelessly through an infrared protocol with this module. In short, the module is the receiver whereas the transmitter is placed on the USB port of the PC. It is observed that large sites require different settings which can be programmed as stated above.
Typically, the NAV / SOD / HQL / HPI / HQI lamps already have a capacitor, electr-magnetic ballast and a ignitor / starter as part of the lamp configuration. This module having a size of 45 x 80 mm can be placed comfortably in any existing lamp canopy without altering or adding any additional housing on the lamp pole or lamp pillar. The installation time in general takes anywhere between 15-30 minutes.
The energy savings are quite pronounced due to variable dimming levels available in this module. For example, level 1 can have a lower dimming level from 15 -25 %, while level 2 can have a higher dimming level ranging from 25-35%. This module is activated after powering on the lamp fixture either manually or by a timer or through a light / lux switch. The initial ten minutes are used by the module to calculate the total power consumption so also provide the lamp to attain it s full operating power by allowing it to strike. Level 1 is invoked immediately after the completion of this ten minutes striking / pre-heating period.
Working : The time settings are programmed in percentages and not in absolute terms. The module s algorithm uses these percentages for programming the time based on the last operating period / duration. For example, level 1 can be set at 25 % whereas level 2 can be set at 75 % and the module would then calculate the total operating hours during the previous 24 hours to initiate the dimming level 1 and 2. If the last operating period was for 12 hours, level 1 would operate for 3 hours (25 %), level 2 for 9 hours (75%) and then the lamp would revert back to level 1 on completion of the 9th hour. This module takes 24 hours for adjusting to any new operating period.
The only changes to be done for operating the ESL module is replacing the existing ignitor with a S.I.P. or Super Imposed Pulse start ignitor, hereafter there are no changes involved to commission the module.
Principle : The principle of dimming is based on adjusting the true RMS (Root Mean Square) power / effective power by controlling the firing angle of a solid state switching device called a triac at the zero crossover of the sinusoidal waveform at both the positive and negative half wave cycles. Just so that the lamp does not lose it s operating light, this dimming module controls the speed of power change into the lamp @ 3 % per minute for all inductive loads. This important feature is critical to ensure that the lamp does not go into a cold condition.
There are two models available, 50-300 watts and 300-500 watts..
