Dabur Acts Against Spurious Products, Drug Manufacturers

Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh,  Moving forward on Dabur India Ltd efforts to rein in the counterfeit products racket, manufacturing units across West Bengal, Ghaziabad and Rajasthan involved in the production of fake Dabur products and medicines were raided. The raids, conducted by local authorities, led to the seizure of spurious personal care & healthcare products and medicines.

"Dabur India has been targeting such counterfeit manufacturers across the country. Through the initiatives of Dabur India, raids have been conducted at various locations and goods worth over Rs 1.50 crore have been seized so far through the raids. The Company has mapped out the locations where these activities take place and is going after the spurious and fake products manufacturers systematically. Leads have been obtained on packaging and label suppliers as well, and Dabur India will spare no efforts to get them all behind bars," said Dabur India Ltd Group Director Mr. P D Narang.

During separate raids in district Nadia (West Bengal), spurious Dabur Gulabari and Dabur Keora Water were confiscated. The seized goods included 50,000 labels of Dabur Gulabari, over 30,000 labels of Dabur Keora Water and both filled & empty bottles of different sizes. The two accused - Swapan Sarkar and Parag Mahato - has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Another raid in district Hoogly (West Bengal) led to the seizure of about 800 packs of spurious Dabur Lal Dant Manjan. The accused Ahad Khan has also been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Besides, raids were also conducted on M/s Balaji Graphis at Loni (Ghaziabad), which was indulged in printing of Dabur Honitus and Antacid caps. About 2,000 printed caps of Dabur Honitus and 1,000 printed caps of Dabur Active Antacid and 500 plain caps and butter papers with monogram and computer, printers etc. have been recovered and seized during the raid. Two accused -- Chandan Sharma and Krishan - who are partners of Balaji Graphis have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Meanwhile, a raid was also conducted at a premises engaged in making spurious Dabur Active Antacid in Jaipur and fake products, labels and bottles seized. The two accused -- Mohd. Nisar and Mohd. Akram -- have been arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Raids of such magnitude, Mr. Narang said, are an effort to tackle the problem of fake products entering the Indian market, which result in an annual loss of approximately Rs 30,000 crore to the industry and Rs 15,000 crore to the Government exchequer. The FMCG industry alone has been facing losses of over Rs 2,600 crore per year, due to counterfeit products.
