Pune, The first of its kind, two-day conference on Best Practices in Maintenance Management held at Sun-N-Sand, Pune on 11th & 12th May, 10 concluded with some insightful inputs from eminent speakers across industry and academia. Survik Software Ltd & IBM had jointly organized this event to bring Maintenance Heads, VPs and Managers under one platform to discuss current challenges and various practices in Maintenance Management field.[H1]

The participants, mostly from manufacturing industries across Pune, received thought-provoking insights and learnt various techniques for Preventive & Predictive Maintenance, TPM, Reliability Centered Maintenance Management and Life Cycle Cost Analysis. [H2]

Dr. S. K. Basu is Professor Emeritus, at COEP Pune and has been doing pioneering research over 50 years to help industries solve complex maintenance engineering problems. He received standing ovation for his contribution to the society as a scientist. His sessions on Preventive & Predictive Maintenance, Condition Based Maintenance and Lifecycle Cost Analysis brought a different perspective for practicing maintenance professionals. Mr. Sunil Kamerkar, CEO, Survik Software Ltd, Mr. Dilip Chawathe, renowned industry consultant, Mr. Hemant Urdhwareshe (Head- Institute of Quality & Reliability), Mr. Dinkar Joshi (Head, Maintenance- Endurance Technologies Pvt. Ltd), Mr. Anil Ghundare (AVP- Maintenance, Bharat Forge) and Dr. A. D. Telang- Professor, NIT Bhopal were amongst the other speakers[H3] .

Mr. Ghundare from Bharat Forge took audience through a case-study on how to considerably reduce maintenance breakdown by applying systematic and planned approach. IBM expert Mr. Sanjay Ganjoo demonstrated Maximo- Asset Management solution to manage and automate asset & plant maintenance effectively. The audience, during the panel discussions, talked about various possibilities of bringing continuous improvements and changing top managements perception about Maintenance Dept being just a cost center. Audience also discussed about Maintenance Planning, Strategic Sourcing and energy saving techniques. [H4]

Dr. Basu and other panelists emphasized on importance of proactive maintenance. Mr. Kamerkar advised maintenance dept to demonstrate their value to gain strategic importance within their organizations and possibly lead towards becoming a profit center. [H5]

Mr. Narendra Iche, one of the participants from Thermax Ltd, expressed the key takeaways as importance of implementing TPM, Asset Management System and data analysis. The participants requested organizers Survik Software to arrange such forums frequently as they get opportunity to interact with their peers and learn from experts. [H6]
