Houston,Seismic Micro-Technology (SMT), the leader for geoscientific interpretation software, today announced its KINGDOM Top Interpreter Awards Ceremony was held in Mumbai, India on August 26, 2010. The ceremony recognizes cutting edge geoscience field evaluation work submitted by contest participants throughout the year. Four top winners, representing three Indian petroleum exploration companies -- GVK Oil and Gas Ltd., ONGC and TATA Petrodyne Ltd. -- were selected from nearly 100 entrants. The winners were announced at the Awards Ceremony.

With an accelerating economy, India continues to seek new ways to achieve greater energy independence. As a result, the nation is rapidly expanding its pool of petroleum exploration talent. SMTs Awards Ceremony recognizes and honors a few of those individuals who are dedicating their talents toward the industrys ongoing effort, said Indy Chakrabarti, Chief Marketing Officer, SMT.

The contest began in early 2010 and required participants to demonstrate novel field evaluation techniques using KINGDOM software. A panel of three experienced geoscientists analyzed the applications and determined the final winners. The official recognition ceremony took place at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai, with SMT CEO and President, Arshad Matin as Master of Ceremonies.

With the rise of shale oil and gas, India has a unique opportunity to move towards energy self sufficiency.
