Mahindra Navistar Engines Unveils Diesel Engines For The Indian Market At Auto Expo 2010

Mumbai, Maharashtra, Dr. Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive Sector, Mahindra and Mahindra and Mr. Eric Tech, President, Navistar Engine Group, today unveiled an array of diesel engines for manufacturers of diesel-powered agricultural, construction and industrial equipment under the aegis of Mahindra Navistar Engines Pvt. Ltd. (MNEPL), the joint partnership between Mahindra & Mahindra and Navistar Inc.

The company unveiled a select range of Navistar diesel products at the Auto Expo. It also showcased current models that meet BS III emissions standards. Mahindra Navistar Engines further presented its product development plans for Euro emissions compliant diesels that are aimed at helping Indian equipment manufacturers strategically expand their businesses in export markets.

Seven distinct engine products were on display, showcasing a portion of Navistar product portfolio available for global applications and customer development through MNEPL.

Mahindra Navistar Engines Pvt Ltd. is a joint venture between Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and Navistar (NYSE: NAV). The joint venture was formed to produce diesel and CNG engines for both on and off-highway applications in India. The new company operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing at Chakan in Maharashtra, using engine components sourced locally. With stringent emission norms introduced across the globe, MNEPL has a range of products and technologies to serve the needs of both on and off highway segments.

The Initial capacity of the greenfield site is projected to be 25,000 units per year, ramping up to 40,000 per year within five years. The first production engine is the MaxxForce a7.2-liter, with in-line design that has been very successful in commercial truck and bus applications in the Western Hemisphere.
